We are seeking suitable candidates for the following positions to complement the research at INBIOSIS:

1. Research Fellow in Computational Systems Biology

  • Candidates should have background in computational biology, computer science, engineering, biophysics, systems biology, quantitative biology, bioinformatics, applied mathematics, biostatistics, and/or biomathematics/ mathematical biology with hands-on experience
  • Strong knowledge of state-of-the-art computational methods, algorithms, numerical analysis, modeling/ optimization tools and biological databases
  • Knowledge in plant biology not critical, but expertise in different omic platforms a strong plus
  • Scientific programming experience in PERL, R, Ruby, JAVA, Matlab, C/C++, XML, SBML etc. is desirable

Example tasks for the position:

  • Metabolic network modelling
  • Development of bioinformatic tools
  • Explorative data analysis of highly complex data sets
  • Graphical representation of scientific data sets
  • Statistical design of experiments and data management
  • Supervision of students and minor teaching
  • Establishment and leadership of a junior research group
  • Proactive participation in the acquisition of third party funds

Description
The successful applicant will be involved in the quantitative design of metabolic network through mathematical modelling and systems analysis of available experimental data. Models are here regarded as computational models of biological systems. Today, version changes on these models are not sufficiently stored, maintained, curated, classified and presented to the users of databases. He/ She will ensure improved usability of these models in the computational biology field and further develop bioinformatics tools for computational modelling and data analysis through programming.

2. Research Fellow in Organic Chemistry/ Natural Product

  • Candidates should have a strong background in organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, biochemistry, and/ or chemical engineering
  • Strong knowledge of state-of-the-art chemical synthesis and analytical chemistry methods for metabolite extraction and identification
  • Knowledge of bioactive natural products and metabolomic pipeline a strong plus

  • Extraction and identification of bioactive compounds
  • Natural products discovery
  • Strengthening the metabolomics workflow
  • Establishment and leadership of a junior research group
  • Supervision of students and minor teaching task
  • Proactive participation in the acquisition of third party funds

Description
The successful applicant will be involved in the on-going research projects of bioactive compound extraction and identification from plant extracts using different chromatography, mass spectrometry and nuclear magnetic resonance approaches.

3. Research Fellow in Process/ Systems Engineering

  • Candidates should have a solid background in systems computer science, chemical engineering, process engineering or systems engineering
  • Strong knowledge of current development in chemical process engineering, mathematical modelling and bioreactors
  • Knowledge of network analysis, large-scae production of natural products and chemical process modelling a strong plus
  • Scientific programming experience in JAVA, Matlab, C/C++ etc. is desirable

Example tasks for the position:

  • Design and implementation of bioreactor system
  • Explorative data analysis of highly complex data sets
  • Modelling and simulation to validate assumptions or theories on biological systems
  • Establishment and leadership of a junior research group
  • Supervision of students and minor teaching task
  • Proactive participation in the acquisition of third party funds

Description
The successful applicant will be involved in the on-going research projects on natural products discovery and streamline a bioreactor system to upscale the in vitro production of bioactive compounds. Additionally, he/ she can also conduct mathematical modelling in complex biological systems/ biochemical processes.

4. Research Fellow in Proteome Science

Candidates should have background in biochemistry, protein science, and/ or proteomics. Strong knowledge of current development in proteome science and proteogenomic research. Hands-on experience in proteomic research and systems biology a strong plus.

Example tasks for the position:

  • Design and conduct proteomic-based research
  • Profiling and characterisation of peptides/ proteins
  • Establishment and leadership of a junior research group
  • Supervision of students and minor teaching task
  • Proactive participation in the acquisition of third party funds

Description
The successful applicant will be involved in the on-going research projects on plant proteomics study to complement the comprehensive model of secondary metabolite production networks.

All the fellows are selected based on their ability, their drive to explore new fields, and their willingness to collaborate. Their backgrounds are in molecular and cellular biology, proteome biology, theoretical and computational biology, physics or chemistry. Preference is given to applicant with documented extensive experience in respective research field. They are young researchers, usually straight from graduate school or a short post- doctoral in a different fields.
